Take Me Here Using Metro Transit

If you’re looking for a sustainable pizza and tapas eatery, look no further than Onesto Pizza & Trattoria, located in the Macklind District.  This old school neighborhood restaurant, which is Italian for “honest”, offers some innovative sustainable gems in addition to great food and drinks.

Onesto uses local, pasture-raised eggs and chicken wings from Buttonwood Farms. Their desserts and breads are either made in-house or come from Companion Bakery, and all of their beer on tap is local, featuring Schlafly, Civil Life, Urban Chestnut, and more! Onesto always checks to make sure their seafood isn’t on the Monterey Bay Aquarium “watch list,” and their head chef took Green Chef Blue Ocean training to ensure that all their ocean-sourced ingredients are sustainably sourced.

Onesto has reduced its waste footprint in a variety of ways, such as providing straws on request only and saving lightbulbs, batteries, and electronics for recycling drives instead of sending them to the landfill. They never give out plastic cutlery with their to-go orders, and use post-consumer (made from recycled material) products whenever they can. Onesto reduces food waste by encouraging their customers to share larger portioned dishes. They even bring their own water cooler to catered events to avoid using individual bottles of water.

Next time you visit make sure to take a peak in the back where you’ll find their aquaponics operations which supplements many of their made from scratch pizzas, tapas, and sauces!

The building houses energy efficient equipment and lighting – their LED lights are all set to dimmers, and they use natural lighting for as long as possible every day. Enjoy watching the neighborhood life from their patio after walking, biking, or taking transit to their restaurant, located just off Macklind.

Their staff is dedicated to creating an environmentally responsible dining experience for their guests, even explaining their mission to their food and paper goods vendors to create more sustainable options for their restaurant, their customers, and even their competitors!
