#EatGreenSTL movement – love your food, love your planet

Written and published February 2015 by Olivia Engel, Green Dining Alliance Program Coordinator

#EatGreenSTL is the easy, delicious way to weave environmental consciousness and local buying power into your weekly routine.

Instead of a boycott, it’s a pro-green dining BUYcott.

How do you do it?ENGAGE.

+  Dine at restaurants that do right by the planet .

+  Post a pic and tag the #EatGreenSTL movement to @GreenDiningSTL .

We’re creating a space in which your positive, everyday actions are amplified. We can show all of St. Louis that making sustainable dining choices is something all of us can do.

You can take action every week, by doing something you already do: eating good food.

It’s simple:

Step 1: Every Thursday (or whenever you can!), support GDA-certified restaurants and cafés.

Step 2: Snap a shot of your green meal and add it to the #EatGreenSTL conversation.

YOU can make an impact!

How can we make a difference, in a world so huge? As it turns out, small, every day actions have a big impact.

By buying locally and sustainably, we strengthen our regional economy as well as conserve and protect natural resources.

(For a specific example, check out the difference you can make by rethinking the American favorite: a hamburger.)

All of our GDA-certified restaurants contribute to a sustainable dining industry in different ways:

  • Reducing and recycling waste
  • Sourcing low-impact foods, drinks, and to-go disposables
  • Conserving water and energy
  • Using non-toxic chemicals
  • Buying locally and organically

By supporting these businesses, you not only support the folks who work there – you support a better economy in St. Louis.

Your dining dollars spent at local businesses strengthen the green suppliers and distributors in the Gateway region, instead of being siphoned away to ‘headquarters’ in another state or country.

We <3 STL

Why St. Louis? Because we love the food and farm culture here, and we want to see it grow.

And we want it to be sustainably delicious.
